The 2018 annual EDAMBA conference will be hosted under the auspices of the University of Cologne and its Cologne Graduate School in Management, Economics and Social Sciences.

The general theme of the conference is on "Multiple Paths to Business Education: Past Dependencies and Emerging Trends."

Target Group
The EDAMBA Annual Meeting has been designed for all those interested in doctoral education, in particular doctoral programmes and schools in management and business studies.

The annual meeting aims at bringing together EDAMBA members, programme directors of PhD or DBA degrees, deans for research and/or doctoral programmes, academic or/and executive directors of studies, programme administrators, heads of doctoral programmes and schools, as well as members’ and officers’ of other doctoral studies’ associations in Europe and worldwide, offering various perspectives and enabling discussions on the conference theme.

Guest Keynote Speakers:

Kevin Morrell
Professor of Strategy and Dean for Postgraduate Research / PhD Degree Programme Director, Durham University Business School, UK.

Kevin is going to talk about “Truth, lies and rhetoric”. Truth could connect to ideals of research practice; lies to malpractice of different kinds in different arenas; rhetoric is generally about the art and science of persuasion.  Some of these themes are longstanding and connect with past dependencies, but by the same token this means there are some enduring principles which could still inform how we think about emerging trends in developing business research and doctoral programmes.

Jörg Sydow
Professor for Inter-firm Cooperation, Department of Management, Freie Universität Berlin, and Academic Director of the DFG-sponsored Research Unit "Organized Creativity" (http://www.wiwiss.fu-berlin.de/forschung/organized-creativity/index.html)

Jörg is going to talk about "Organizational Path Dependence and Beyond". With the help of the theory of path dependence he will explain why organizational change is more often than not so difficult if not impossible. However, he will also show under which conditions organizational paths can be broken.

Toni Pierenkemper
Was a Professor of Economic and Social History. Toni is a renowned Economic Historian.

Toni will talk about the German tradition in Business Education.
