29th EDAMBA Summer Research Academy
Athens, Greece, July 20-24, 2020

The 29th EDAMBA Summer Research Academy is aimed at giving an analysis and some important perspectives on the challenges facing management and business research in a postmodern knowledge economy. It will position management and business research in relation to the moral and normative issues, the methodological issues and issues concerning new theoretical developments.

Doctoral students face many such issues both in relation to what their intellectual identity as researchers now and in the future is, and in relation to their function as members of the research and business communities.

The general aims of the EDAMBA Summer Research Academies are to

  • provide a forum for dialogue on research paradigms and methodologies in the field of management and business research
  • allow participants to present their own research with a focus on its place in the research landscape in business and management
  • give young researchers means to motivate them to continue with their research and find a role and intellectual identity in today’s research landscape
  • build scholarly networks among young researchers from the various fields of management and business research

The focus of the summer research academy is on recent issues for management and business research focusing on research challenges connected to interdisciplinarity, forms of research and important developments in research methods, such as the relation between qualitative and quantitative methods, as they has been seen in recent developments. Issues in innovation and innovation research, and new uses of narrative methods, will be presented. The aim is to give the participants an overview of some of the most important research challenges facing the field of management and business research. There will be workshops on the challenges of doing case studies and presentation on what it means to develop new theory in the field.

A central part of the academy will be the presentation and discussion of the projects of the participating doctoral students. Each participant should write a short presentation of her or his project focusing on challenges and problems connected to relevant research methods and/or developments of theory. The aim is to get an overview and understanding of the issues connected to the implicit or explicit philosophy of science involved.

The understanding of the central value challenges in our field of research will be discussed with a focus on contributing to the development of an intellectual identity for the ethically responsible researcher in management and business.

The format of the research academy will consist of lectures, workshops and participant presentations. Lectures will both present important issues and introduce themes that are treated in the workshops. Workshops are more interactive and participants should expect to contribute.

There will be two evenings available for meetings and consultations between faculty and participants.

ECTS: 5 ECTS are assigned to the Summer Academy
